Superintendent, Fort Union National Monument PO Box 127 Watrous, NM 87753 505/425-8025
The fort, Fort Union, was built in 1851 as the headquarters and supply depot for the Military Department of New Mexico. The name was given to 3 forts constructed near the Santa Fe Trail which culminated with the sprawling installation whose ruins visitors can see today.
