5/29/1780
Colonel Abraham Buford commanded 350 Continentals stationed about 40 miles north of Charleston when Charleston surrendered. Immediately after hearing of the surrender, Buford headed his mean north towards North Carolina. Major Banastare Tarletons legion left Charleston with several hundred cavalry. Tarleton rode 154 miles in barely over 48 hours to overtake Buford at Waxhaw Creek.Tarleton surrounded the Americans who raised a white flag. The redcoats charged right in killing 113 and wounding another 150 and capturing 53 in their charge.
